Don’t you just love it when a good day becomes a great one?

Last week, Ronnie Foster of Pink Hill, N.C., had one of those days.

WABC News in New York reports Foster was on his way to his final chemotherapy treatment in his battle with colon cancer when he stopped at a gas station. While there, he purchased a $1 scratch-off ticket.

He won $5. Not bad, he thought.

So, feeling lucky, the retired Department of Transportation worker used that cash to buy himself a $5 Win It All scratch-off.

“At the last second, I decided to buy two tickets instead of one,” Foster told WABC.

The first ticket was a loser. But the second?

“I saw all those zeroes and I froze,” Foster said. “I didn’t believe it until I gave it to the clerk at the counter to scan. When it showed, ‘Go to lottery headquarters,’ I started shaking. I couldn’t believe it.”

He picked up his prize — which ended up after state and federal taxes being $141,501 — at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.

“I was already happy because it was my last round of chemo,” Foster said. “Winning this made it my lucky day.”

He told WABC that he plans to use the winnings to help pay medical bills and for future savings.

“I have good insurance,” he said. “But there is still some cost. This will make it a whole lot easier.”
