An angler won a game of tug-of-war with a snake trying to steal a rainbow trout from his stringer on Crooked Creek in Virginia, according to a report from Storyful.

Larry Bobbit, the angler, shot a video on June 22 of the incident, which went viral on the social media site Storyful. MSN and other news outlets carried that story and video.

“Can’t even fish, without something trying to steal your fish” Larry Bobbit told Storyful.

As snakes are opportunistic feeders, there are other incidents of the sly creatures absconding with anglers’ catches.

The Des Moines Register published a story last year along with photos of a large northern water snake that seemed to be stalking an angler’s bobber and pounced when once the angler hooked a fish.

In that clash and tug-of-war, the snake won.
