Letter to the editor: Abortion is not a right

Abortion is a top election issue. Reproductive rights are not being challenged. Women have the right to access reproductive information, have sex/not have sex (except in the horrendous case of rape), use/not use birth control or fertility treatments, choose their childbirth experience and choose/not choose sterilization.

Some people consider abortion a reproductive right. Abortion is never a right. When a reproductive choice results in pregnancy, it now involves two people — mother and child. Our judicial system recognizes this in the case of the murder of a pregnant woman. It is a double homicide.

Abortion in cases with extenuating circumstances — rape, incest, risk to the mother or other medical reasons — should not be determined by politics or lawmakers. It is a personal decision for those involved. But abortion used as birth control because a pregnancy is unplanned, untimely, an inconvenience, a financial burden or other nonmedical reasons, in my opinion, is murder. To kill is to cause death, to end a life.

Abortion and murder are both defined as the deliberate termination of human life. Know the definitions. Murder is not a right. Murder is not legal. Please do not vote to legalize murder.
