Letter to the editor: All veterans should be honored
As the mother of an Operation Enduring Freedom combat vet, I am infuriated! Apparently President Donald Trump only honors veterans from wars we won. Last week, he declared on social media that he is “renaming May 8th as Victory Day for World War II and November 11th as Victory Day for World War I.”
This essentially only honors dead vets, as very few, if any, are still alive from World War II (and obviously no one from World War I). Evidently the wars we didn’t win (Korea, Vietnam, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freeom, etc.) don’t count? Those veterans’ service don’t deserve recognition because the draft dodger “doesn’t like losers”?
Veterans, you should be furious! Call your congressmen!
