Letter to the editor: Bishop must restore Father Moineau's priestly duties

I write this letter because I feel disappointed, saddened and frustrated by the recent decisions that have been leveled against Father John Moineau.

As a lifelong Catholic, I’ve had experiences with many priests who came and were transferred, none of whom have touched my heart, inspired my spiritual growth and provided numerous opportunities for deepening my faith as this beloved pastor has.

We have two young men from Immaculate Conception Parish studying for the priesthood because of Father John’s example of love for Christ and his church. Father John was every parishioner’s spiritual director and devoted shepherd at both Immaculate Conception and Elizabeth Ann Seton parishes.

It’s been three months, and we are no closer to being enlightened about his priestly future. To allow such a faithful, devoted, beloved, spirit-filled and capable pastor to live isolated and in limbo about his future is grossly unfair, let alone when one considers the degree of anxiety this has to have caused him while continuing chemo treatments for pancreatic cancer.

Be merciful to him, sooner rather than later, Bishop Kulick, and please restore his priestly duties.
