Letter to the editor: Common sense and global warming

I sometimes wonder where common sense has gone. To wit: The coldest places on earth would have the most frozen water. The Arctic ice cap floats on the Arctic Sea. The continent of Antarctica is covered with ice that, according to NASA, is increasing. So how can any rational person conclude that human behavior is causing an existential threat to the planet through global warming?

In 1815 the volcanic eruption of Mt. Tambora in Indonesia spewed such a huge amount of ash into the atmosphere that it caused the Earth’s temperature to dropped by 7 degrees. Crops failed across the globe. Torrential rains caused flooding. Hunger, starvation and desperation led to a crime wave. Many froze to death. People living in New England experienced a year without a summer where rivers and lakes remained frozen and crops were killed off by frost. Millions died all over the world from this natural phenomena. Somehow the Earth’s temperatures returned to their usual patterns without the help of government policies or spending.

So where is all of the settled science that supports global warming? In my opinion, not surprisingly it comes from researchers who are paid by the politicians to further the myth in order to consolidate their power at the expense of our freedoms. It’s all about power and money.

So put away your tin foil hats and stop screaming that the sky is falling. No one believes you anymore.
