Letter to the editor: Fathers need to step up
The title of the old ballad “Where Have All the Flowers Gone” can be used to describe a nationwide disgrace: Where have all the fathers gone?
Millions of so-called fathers have become nothing more than sperm donors. Children grow without having healthy male role models in their lives. This leaves millions of young mothers holding the bag. Many try to hold jobs and go to school and end up in a financial mess. Far too often their only way of surviving is to seek welfare, which they truly need.
With that said, hey fathers, step up and be responsible. Take the load off society and do what is right. There is a verse in the book of Matthew that states, “whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Jesus to stumble, it would better to have a heavy millstone hung around their necks and be drowned in the depth of the sea.”
There is also a huge problem with fentanyl and other addicting drugs, which is being attacked from a top-down approach when it should be a bottom-up approach. If children are taught what is right and wrong by parents and a strong moral code is written on their hearts, there would be no market for life-destroying drugs. Our homes could be homes once again, and our schools would be healthy learning environments where teachers are respected.
There is hope that our communities can be restored, and optimism can become a reality. This should be a wake-up call to our political leaders.
