Letter to the editor: Hard not to get down on the Pirates

Back in the ’70s, the Pirates had a team of heavy hitters and were nicknamed “The Lumber Company” by, I believe, announcer Bob Prince. A little later they had some very fast runners join the team and were renamed “The Lumber and Lighting Company.”

It’s easy to get down on a team, but the Pirates are making it hard not to: anemic hitting, bad base running, errors fielding and now a pitching crew imploding. So, until there is some kind of improvement in all areas of play, I will now think of our current “Major League” team as “The Plunder and Freighting Company.”
