Letter to the editor: Harris excitement will continue

The enthusiasm and energy of Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign will continue to be a force that can’t be ignored. It presents hope for the future. “We won’t go back,” the slogan that emanated from the people, resolves to abandon the chaos, disparity and embarrassment of the Donald Trump presidency.

The Democratic Party has triggered a windstorm of excitement. The contribution President Joe Biden made to his country is historic. His decision to leave the race and accept his place as a transitional president who was able to successfully lead the country out of covid, avoid a recession, preserve the United States as a world power, and pass bipartisan legislation to affect gun safety, infrastructure and the cost of prescription drugs is monumental.

Now the baton has been passed to an accomplished woman who has worked hard at every turn to be elected president. We take pride in her achievement and support her efforts. She is a groundbreaker guiding and leading us into the future. She continues the legacy of those before her who worked to advocate for women’s rights to include the right to vote — the Sandra Day O’Connors and Bella Abzugs who in the 1970s, not so long ago, led Congress to give women the right to open a bank account and establish a line of credit and educational opportunities that had been denied. Imagine that!

Our Founding Fathers were radicals, trailblazers, free thinkers. They moved forward establishing a democratic republic with equality for all. Harris continues to promote the American Dream. Vote blue!
