Letter to the editor: Kakistocracy's consequences
It is difficult to keep up with the actions of the kakistocracy but it is important to pay attention, know the facts and understand the consequences.
• Elon Musk’s actions have by some accounts cost the U.S. $500 billion. That is not what it saved; that is what they have cost taxpayers.
• Trump’s golfing alone has cost taxpayers $26 million.
• Our national security is being compromised by fools using Signal chats and Cabinet members who don’t seem to understand the departments they are supposed to run.
• The IRS has been gutted and 20,000 IRS employees fired, especially in enforcement, so no more billionaire audits. The rich only get richer through their Republican tax cuts that come at the expense of working-class Americans.
Tens of thousands of federal employees are losing their jobs even though the federal workforce is no larger than it was decades ago. Yet the population continues to grow and the needs increase. As an example, with nearly 4 million people in the U.S. turning 65 each year, the demands on social programs are immense. When websites crash and calls are not answered, thank the power-hungry billionaires, not the underpaid federal employees.
In my opinion, the U.S. is damaging its own integrity and has become an embarrassment to the world because of these dangerous, unaccomplished and inexperienced people; the current administration serves the wealthiest and embraces fascist-leaning dictators.
I think we have devolved into a second-world country. No one should feel good about that.
