We hear over and over to “get involved.” Vice President Vance suggested I write a letter to my local newspaper. So here goes.

Our nation had a watershed moment on Sept. 10 with the assassination of Charlie Kirk. We could see a Rubicon crossed, and reaction since has been illuminating. There have been reactions of love, of righteous anger, of shock, of grief, of courage, and, yes, there have been reactions marked by evil.

And there was the address given by Kirk’s incredible wife, Erika. If you haven’t seen it, please make sure to take the time.

Kirk’s mission was to live his Christian faith and share his values. He knew the only way to have unity is through conversation. He inspired millions to think for themselves.

Now Kirk inspires millions more.

Violence must not be normalized, much less glorified. Let us all find points with which we can agree. We might then find there’s more we agree on than expected.

And let us have the difficult conversations, too. For they’re the reason our First Amendment is so vital.

Let’s do it for Charlie.
