A good journalist explores all material relating to his story. I believe Kevin A. Sabet did not. In his counterpoint op-ed “Cannabis is not medicine and never has been” (Nov. 15, TribLive), he stated that cannabis is not medicine and never has been. Wrong!

In a 2015 article in Forbes, “Pfizer, Eli Lilly Were The Original Medical Marijuana Sellers,” Debra Borchardt wrote, “In a 1919 medical catalog, these companies listed several cannabis products. … According to the Antique Cannabis Book, almost 6% of all manufactured drugs at the turn of the century contained cannabis in one form or another. For example, Squibb sold cannabis in powder form, tablets, fluid extracts and tinctures.”

There is much more information on cannabis first coming from India via a marijuana plant that Eli Lilly produced from and developed in the U.S.

So, Mr. Sabet, look before you leap!
