Letter to the editor: Neglected incline area reflects badly on Pittsburgh
Recently, we took a dear friend visiting us from Norway to the Duquesne Incline to view “The ’Burgh” from Mt.Washington. We were disgusted; disgusted with the condition of the parking lot, walking along a narrow sidewalk next to busy Carson Street, and the rusting stairs and walkway to the incline itself.
The parking lot, after Friday’s rain, was a muddy, pothole-infested pig sty. Some “pay-to-park” meters did not work, and more than half of visitors’ cars were not displaying any “pay-to-park” receipts, as they should.
Well, when we host the NFL draft next year, visitors will get the real impression of “the ’Burgh” when they drive to the incline: a dirty, neglected, has-been city in decline.
Pittsburgh city and transit officials, get off your butts and clean up the city we love, now!
