Letter to the editor: Of course Trump would see himself as pope

Who can blame President Trump for seeing himself as worthy of being the next pope? Our behavior has enabled this expectation.

Republicans in Congress taught him that he won’t be expelled from office even if evidence is clear that he tried to bribe a foreign leader with taxpayer money. American voters taught him that he can be a convicted felon, sexual predator and tax fraudster and still be elected president. The Supreme Court reacted to charges of election subversion and obstructing justice by declaring he’s retroactively and prospectively immune from criminal prosecution. So, in his mind, it would seem logical for Catholic cardinals to bestow papal infallibility on a man with no regard for morality.

When you give power and protection to a self-serving bully, you shouldn’t be surprised when he expects even more.
