I’m shocked and thoroughly amazed at the Hempfield Township supervisors’ decision to purchase land to rebuild a fire station that will be farther from the areas most affected by emergencies requiring help, without the fire stations’ input (“Hempfield supervisors buy land for new fire station despite response time warnings,” Nov. 25, TribLive). Are you kidding me?

When silliness like this occurs, I wonder who has their hand out. This proposal deserves a deeper look. Questions that immediately come to mind: Who owns the land? Who stands to benefit from the sale? And how do residents of Hempfield benefit?

Doug Weimer, et al., we deserve to know.
