I can accurately be described as a voracious reader; that said, I can honestly say I’ve never been as amazed as I am now at the blatantly false items I’ve been reading lately on these opinion pages. Of course I realize and respect everyone’s right to their opinions, but at least have the decency to get the facts right.
The government shutdown is completely the fault of Democratic lawmakers. As of this writing, the Republicans have put forth a so-called clean resolution to reopen the government 13 times now. This is the exact same resolution the Democrats voted in favor of 12 times during the disastrous Biden presidency, and the exact same resolution they have voted against 13 times this shutdown.
So what changed? Quite obviously, Donald Trump is president now. The visceral hatred for this man has blinded Democrats to any reasonable and humane action on their part.
Real people are suffering very real consequences as a result of this terrible situation, and that is a fact none of us should ever accept.
