Letter to the editor: Time to find common ground with Trump

Tribune-Review

My letter was originally intended to show support for President Trump’s harsh dealings with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but 48 hours later my defense became unnecessary since the truth became obvious and Zelenskyy recanted his position. Such is the rapidity of Trump’s successes.

After watching Trump’s joint address to Congress, however, it has also become obvious that the Democratic Party’s recalcitrance begins to look petty, mean-spirited and un-American. First, the Democrats’ refusal to escort the president into the room was unprecedented. Then, Rep. Al Green’s vocal and disruptive opposition to the president reminds us of Nancy Pelosi tearing up Trump’s State of the Union speech back in his first administration. Finally, Democratic leaders refused to stand or applaud when the president referenced changes that would have had a positive impact on their own districts and constituents. Not even when Trump showed support for police officers who died in the line of duty or when the Secret Service honored a 13-year-old boy who beat cancer and dreamt of being a police officer someday did the Dems show any support at all.

Not only have many Democratic voters come around to see Trump’s positives, but many prominent Democrats, such as Tulsi Gabbard and RFK Jr., are serving in Trump’s Cabinet. Elon Musk, who has traditionally supported Democrats, is firmly in Trump’s camp.

Isn’t it about time that the legacy media and Democratic leadership stop sitting on their hands and find common ground with so many of Trump’s policies that are designed to help Americans?
