The problem with the Nippon sale is simple: ducking responsibility for the labor contract. Yes, they “say” they will honor them, but the way they have it written is between U.S. Steel and Nippon Steel North America — not Nippon Steel Corp. You need to read the actual correspondence between Nippon and the USW. If Nippon signs a contract as NSC — not a “merger” between NSNA and USS — then the deal can move forward. The union has put all correspondence on their site. It’s in black and white. Tell Nippon to sign a contract as NSC. Not the merger of USS and NSNA.
