Letter to the editor: Vote for democracy, freedom, fairness

We overcame slavery as the country slowly took action against what humanity knew to be wrong. We watched from across the Atlantic as the German people fell to fascism. We eventually joined the forces of good in the battle against evil tyranny and the persecution of those who believed differently.

Today, the battle is again right here among us. I believe it is a repeat of what happened in Germany in the 1930s. Despite evidence to the contrary, I want to believe that the vast majority of us will reject right-wing extremism and see that it is not right in God’s eyes to denigrate and persecute others and to seek to control the lives of others.

Does anyone stop and think what it would be like if they were considered the “different” ones? What if you were persecuted for your beliefs or if you were the immigrant seeking a better life in a free country?

I pray that each of us will search our souls and vote for democracy and freedom and fairness. The other choice will doom our children’s futures. It will be bleak, and to say, “I told you so,” will be no consolation if Good loses.
