Letter to the editor: Where is sheriff’s evidence of danger?
Share this post:
I am confused as to the purpose of Sheriff James Albert’s letter “Keeping Westmoreland County safe” (Dec. 10, TribLive). Was it a press release that they will cooperate with ICE in 2025? Or was it to instill fear in the citizens of Westmoreland County?
“… society has become more dangerous.” Has there been a rise in crime?
“… media is calling for women to arm themselves,” and they are issuing more gun permits. What news source is saying this?
Writing “illegal aliens” and women requesting more gun permits together means fear of aliens is the reason. Maybe women are requesting gun permits because they are seeing their rights being taken away.
“… there is fear among citizens.” What is this is based on? I have not heard anyone expressing this in my community. We live in a safe community where we trust our police to address any issues that may arise in the future.
If there are any undocumented people here who are committing crimes, the police will use appropriate arrest procedures with subsequent deportations.
Every law enforcement officer understands the need for evidence to prove a case. Hearsay is not admissible in court and cannot be used as evidence.
In the future, please include all pertinent statistics to support your conclusions.
Recent research (2024) has shown that the false belief of a dangerous world is fueling a rise in gun permits.
I choose to live here because it is safe.
