Letter to the editor: Yes, I’m better off than I was 4 years ago

So twice-impeached, convicted felon Donald Trump thinks he deserves another term in the Oval Office.

Does he think we don’t remember that his former chief of staff, Gen. John Kelly, called him “the most flawed individual I’ve ever met” and his former national security adviser John Bolton told us world leaders consider Trump a “laughing fool” and a “serious threat to our national security”?

Does he think we’ve forgotten that he refused to accept the results of a fair and free election and then incited his supporters to desecrate the Capitol? Does he not know that we now know that when he was told Mike Pence was in danger, he said, “So what?”

One of the questions posed to voters is, “Are you better off now than you were four years ago”? Yes, I am, and I’m not basing my answer on the price of eggs. Four years ago, I was in the same boat as most Americans, living through a dearth of supplies because of the pandemic. The president doesn’t control the supply chain or set and manage prices. The resulting inflation was global; however, the U.S. has fared better than most other countries. We now have the most robust economy in the world.

We have had four years of a president who treats others with decency and respect and honors the Constitution and the rule of law. So, yes, I am better off than I was four years ago. If we want to be proud of our country and president, we can’t let Trump anywhere near the Oval Office.
