Sounding off: Trump, Biden, Steelers among week’s topics

Free-for-all coming with Trump in charge
So here we are. A convicted felon will be our president. We will be led by billionaires and millionaires, an oligarchy. As if any of them know what it’s like to live this life without any of the struggles that those with less encounter. It’s all about power.
My father used to say, “Who checks the checkers?” Not sure, but with Donald Trump’s loyalist Cabinet picks, most of whom lack the experience needed for their positions, it will most likely be a free-for-all.
He talks about taking over Greenland, the Panama Canal and Canada, but what is he going to do about the things that he said he was going to do to help the American people, both Republicans and Democrats? I believe without a doubt that he will abuse the power of the presidency. If you think it can’t or won’t happen, I say, “let them see.” The warnings were there, and they came from the felon himself.
I will remain hopeful in those who remain resilient in defending our democracy and our freedoms.

Biden’s revenge
Once it was understood that 77 million American voters did not support his policies, it seems President Biden decided to do his best to inhibit America’s commonsense change for the people. Biden:
• Auctions off expensive border wall components purchased by everyday Americans’ hard work and taxes, until he was stopped by a federal judge. Is his goal to make it easier for noncitizens/drugs/terrorists to enter through our borders? Is he looking to eventually give them the right to vote?
• Pardons criminals, some of whom will be put back on our streets. Is his goal to show he still has power to do as he pleases, regardless of who he hurts?
• Swears at reporters for asking straightforward questions. Is his goal to make sure they don’t question his competence again?
• Shuts down new access to our fossil-fuel resources in our surrounding waters. Is his goal to protect his climate crisis goals while raising the cost of Americans’ energy and stepping on President-elect Trump’s “drill baby drill” agenda?
• Releases 11 terrorists from Gitmo and sends them to Oman. His goal? I have no sane answer!
In my opinion, Biden is choosing to inflict pain on Americans in his last days in office while he gives awards to those who support him. In my lifetime, I do not recall an angry president of my America being so contrary to the good of our nation.

Steelers need new coaches
When will the Steelers’ owners replace the coaching staff so that the fans can have something to look forward to? Six in a row is uncalled for. Any other team would have replaced the coaches after two losses.

Fetterman sees what other Dems won’t see
I guess the writer of the letter “Sen. Fetterman, will you lead?” (Jan. 11, TribLive) doesn’t see how Americans were fed up with poor Democratic policies that hurt this country. Joe Biden is the worst president we’ve had in decades. His border policies have allowed millions of illegal immigrants and cartel members into our country.
Have you forgotten about Laken Riley? How about the increase in fentanyl in our country, or the child sex slavery going on? Call Donald Trump names if you want, but, in his previous four years, we had more peace in the world plus respect, and lower prices at the gas pumps and grocery stores. Taxes were lower, and employment was at an all-time high.
So don’t diss Sen. John Fetterman if he sees what other Democrats don’t see or refuse to see. He is looking out for Pennsylvania and what is good for our country.

Too much CO2 bad for people and planet
I take exception with all four self-centered points in the letter “More meat, CO2 among resolutions” (Jan. 12, TribLive). With regard to one in particular, I suggest the writer rev up his 4.5-liter, 315 HP V8 Mustang and then go sit behind its tailpipe and breathe in that CO2. As he said, CO2 is “essential for life,” but he will soon learn how too much of it makes him feel, which is also true for the planet as a whole.

Ward’s take on US Steel
In reading Sen. Kim Ward’s comments in the article “What they’re saying about it: Biden nixes U.S. Steel-Nippon deal” (Jan. 3, TribLive), I was surprised she favors a Japanese firm over an Ohio firm for the U.S. Steel buyout.
I don’t believe she fought She didn’t fight for the jobs lost when First Energy took over Allegheny Power, and many jobs were lost in that acquisition. Furthermore, there were more jobs lost when the State Correctional Institution in Hempfield closed. She claimed she didn’t know anything about it.

Bishop Kulick should resign
Many of us as members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Immaculate Conception parishes still are in shock and cannot understand why Father John Moineau was forced to resign as pastor. There are so many “whys,” and we’ve received no answers to any of them. When will we?
It seems to me that the obvious person to resign should be Bishop Larry Kulick. When the employee in question was first hired many years ago, his application was forwarded to the HR department of the Diocese of Greensburg. At that time Kulick was the vicar general of the diocese. Wasn’t the employee in question’s application for employment approved by the vicar general? Father Moineau was not even in this area at that time. So why was he treated like a criminal for mistakenly approving this person to continue working?
In my opinion, this bishop is responsible for destroying two parishes and a school, upsetting the religious lives of the congregations of both parishes, destroying the reputation of a man who has dedicated his life to God in person and via the media, the loss of livelihood of two parish office staffs, attempting to prevent members of the congregations from interacting with Moineau and causing collections to diminish. Why? What bishop would do this? Why would a bishop do this to his flock?
