The Pittsburgh Pirates have 20 pitchers and 20 position players on their 40-man roster as the 2025 season approaches. Here’s a look at each player:

53 Mike Burrows, 6-1, 200, RHP: Starter returned from Tommy John surgery to make MLB debut late last September.

71 Tsung-Che Cheng, 5-8, 180, 2B/SS: Dynamic defender in middle infield finished 2024 at Triple-A Indianapolis.

25 Billy Cook, 6-1, 200, 1B/OF: Strong arm acquired from Orioles at trade deadline, made debut with Pirates last September.

15 Oneil Cruz, 6-7, 240, OF: After 21 homers, 22 steals in 2024, Cruz intends to improve his production while playing center.

32 Henry Davis, 6-1, 225, C: The 2021 No. 1 overall pick hopes to bounce back after batting .144 with one homer in 37 games.

55 Jason Delay, 6-0, 200, C: Defensive whiz a dependable backup who was sidelined by knee surgery early last season.

6 Bailey Falter, 6-4, 205, LHP: Elite extension helped him go 8-9 with a 4.43 ERA in 28 starts last season.

64 Caleb Ferguson, 6-3, 225, LHP: Veteran brings postseason experience to bullpen, possibility of being starter or opener.

26 Adam Frazier, 5-10, 190, 2B/OF: 2021 All-Star second baseman returns after playing in postseason with three teams since trade.

39 Nick Gonzales, 5-10, 200, 2B/SS: Won starting job at second base, batted .270/.311/.398 in 94 games last season.

13 Ke’Bryan Hayes, 6-0, 215, 3B: 2023 Gold Glove winner bothered by chronic back issues needs to improve .573 OPS.

0 Andrew Heaney, 6-2, 200, LHP: Has 185 career starts, won World Series with Rangers in 2023.

35 Colin Holderman, 6-6, 230, RHP: Sinkerballer setup man has 48 holds over the past two seasons.

2 Spencer Horwitz, 6-0, 200, 1B: Expected to start at first base but sidelined by surgery on right wrist in February.

37 Jared Jones, 6-0, 190, RHP: The 23-year-old with triple-digit fastball had 132 strikeouts in 121 2/3 innings as rookie.

7 Isiah Kiner-Falefa, 5-10, 195, SS: After batting .292/.338/.420 for Blue Jays, moves into starting role at short.

23 Mitch Keller, 6-3, 213, RHP: A 2023 All-Star went 10-5 with 3.46 ERA in first half but 1-7 with 5.65 ERA after the break.

62 Justin Lawrence, 6-3, 213, RHP: Former Rockies sidewinder was closer in 2023 but claimed off waivers after posting 6.49 ERA.

18 Tim Mayza, 6-3, 215, LHP: Longtime Blue Jays innings eater pitched in World Series for Yankees last fall.

22 Andrew McCutchen, 5-10, 190, DH: Five-time All-Star, 2013 MVP needs five homers to match Roberto Clemente.

50 Carmen Mlodzinski, 6-2, 220, RHP: Converted reliever expanded repertoire in hopes of returning to rotation.

36 Dauri Moreta, 6-2, 225, RHP: Fireman with wicked sweeper before Tommy John surgery, will start the season on 60-day injured list.

66 Kyle Nicolas, 6-3, 225, RHP: Catchers say reliever has closer stuff with upper 90s fastball, aiming for high-leverage role.

24 Johan Oviedo, 6-6, 275, RHP: Started 32 games in 2023 before TJ surgery, starting on 60-day IL with lat strain.

30 Paul Skenes, 6-6, 260, RHP: All-Star starter, rookie of year and Cy Young favorite added cutter, sinker to pitch mix.

63 Hunter Stratton, 6-4, 225 RHP: Reliable reliever recovered from ruptured patella tendon in left knee ahead of timeline, impressed as non-roster invite for second consecutive spring.

44 Peter Strzelecki, 6-2, 215, RHP: Reliever acquired from Guardians has five-pitch mix, candidate for fireman role.

19 Jared Triolo, 6-3, 210, 3B/2B/1B/SS: Won Gold Glove as utility player and could see time at every infield position.

10 Bryan Reynolds, 6-2, 205, OF: Two-time All-Star led Pirates with 24 homers, 88 RBIs, .275 batting average, .344 OBP.

65 Jack Suwinski, 6-2, 215, OF: After hitting 26 homers in 2023, slumped to .182 average, nine homers last season.

48 Enmanuel Valdez, 5-8, 190, 2B/3B: Played 125 games past two seasons with Red Sox, will start season in minors.

34 Joey Wentz, 6-5, 220, LHP: Reliever posted 1.50 ERA in eight appearances after claimed off waivers from Tigers.

38 Nick Yorke, 6-0, 210, 2B/1B/OF: No. 5 prospect with big bat debuted last September, added first base this spring.
