Reese Hasley is off to a strong start for the Grove City women’s basketball team.
The Deer Lakes graduate and Wolverines senior guard is averaging 10 points, 7.5 rebounds and three assists through four games.
She collected a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three assists in Grove City’s season-opening victory over Carlow on Nov. 7.
Hasley tallied six assists, seven rebounds and six steals against Mt. Aloysius last Saturday. It was her 80th game of her collegiate career.
Grove City (2-2) hosts Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday.
Men’s basketball
Allegheny: Ryan Lang (Knoch) averaged 21.5 points as the Gators went 1-1 last week. The senior guard moved into 24th place on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,109 career points. He tallied a season-best 22 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals in last Saturday’s 90-81 loss at Pitt-Greensburg. He also scored 21 points and added six rebounds in an 82-57 season-opening win over Carlow.
Men’s cross country
IUP: Mike Formica (Knoch) broke the program’s 35-year-old 10K record (30 minutes, 25.70 seconds) in placing fourth overall at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional on Nov. 8 at Lock Haven. The finish qualified him for Saturday’s national meet in Kenosha, Wisc. Formica has not finished outside the top five in any race this season.
Women’s cross country
Edinboro: Eliza Miller (Kiski Area) and Kadi Bauer (Burrell) helped the Scots place third at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championships and qualify for nationals. Miller, a sophomore, earned all-region honors by placing 19th in a time of 22:02.2. Bauer, a junior, was next for Edinboro in 37th (22:30.1).
Women’s tennis
PSU-Altoona: Lexi Colaianni (Kiski Area) was voted the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference co-player of the year for her play during the Lions’ fall season. The junior posted a perfect 4-0 record in AMCC matches played at No. 3 singles, part of an 11-2 overall record in that lineup spot. Colaianni went 12-3 in all of her singles matches. She was twice named the AMCC Player of the Week.
Football
Waynesburg: Thomas Burke (Leechburg) got the start at quarterback against Presidents Athletic Conference foe Bethany on Nov. 1. He completed 10 of 15 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns in the Jackets’ 48-28 win. Waynesburg finished its season 4-6 overall and 4-4 in PAC play.
Grove City: Keegan Fraser (Knoch) leads the Wolverines defense with six interceptions. Two of them came in a 14-7 victory over PAC rival Westminster on Oct. 25. Fraser, a senior safety, will help lead Grove City (8-2) into an NCAA Division III first-round game Saturday at Hanover, Ind.
Women’s wrestling
Lock Haven: Bella DeVito (Kiski Area) placed fourth in her weight class at the season-opening Princeton Open on Nov. 2. She scored four wins on the day, two by pin and two by decision. She also recorded a victory at the Adrian Open on Nov. 9. DeVito, 5-6 this season, is 33-30 overall in her two-plus seasons with the Eagles.
Men’s soccer
Lock Haven: Billy Lawrence (Springdale) earned his first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference second-team recognition after a breakout sophomore season as one of the top midfielders in the division. He tallied a team-high six assists while scoring two goals. His six assists ranked sixth in the PSAC.
Women’s soccer
Grove City: Karly Keller (Kiski Area) picked up a PAC first-team all-star selection for her play at outside back in helping the Wolverines win the conference title and earn a spot in the NCAA Division III tournament. It was the senior four-year defensive starter’s first first-team nod. She helped lead the defense and also provided a goal and three assists.
Allegheny: Serena Carnahan (Thiel) earned Presidents Athletic Conference honorable mention honors. The freshman midfielder played in and started all 20 games and scored her first collegiate goal against Hiram, heading in a corner kick in a 2-0 victory in October. That performance helped her earn PAC Newcomer of the Week recognition.
St. Vincent: Jordan Kirkwood (Valley) was tabbed a PAC honorable mention selection with 19 starts this season. She scored seven goals, which ranked second on the team, and added three assists. The Bearcats (15-4-1, 8-2-1 PAC) went 6-1 in games in which Kirkland scored a goal.
Washington & Jefferson: Ally Zidek (Kiski Area) also earned PAC honorable mention honors. The freshman recorded a pair of assists as she started 17 of 18 games on the Presidents’ back line.
