Bob Ley retiring from ESPN after 40 years

Bob Ley, one of the first broadcasters at ESPN, is retiring after nearly 40 years with the company.
Ley was on a sabbatical for the past 10 months, so had not been on air recently.
On Twitter the “Outside the Lines” host posted:
“Across 40 years I have enjoyed a professional journey unimaginable when I joined ESPN on its first weekend of existence in 1979. Each day since has been a unique adventure, one I embraced for the challenge and unequaled fun of a job like no other.
“Now, it’s time for a change. I will be retiring from ESPN, as of the end of the month.”

Ley, 64, joined the network as a “SportsCenter” anchor on Sept. 9, 1979, the third day of the network’s operation, according to the company.
Making one more appearance, Ley will join Jeremy Schaap on Wednesday’s episode of “Outside the Lines.”
Ley was inducted into the National Sports Media Association Hall of Fame this week.
