District college football roundup: Kutztown upsets Slippery Rock in PSAC championship game

Darryl Davis-McNeil ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns as Kutztown upset No. 4 Slippery Rock, 31-7, in the PSAC championship game Saturday afternoon.

Judd Novak threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns for Kutztown (9-2), which outgained Slippery Rock (10-1) by a 412-229 margin. Brayden Long threw for 182 yards and Slippery Rock’s only touchdown.

East Stroudsburg 37, Cal (Pa.) 30 – Evan Roche caught a tiebreaking 80-yard touchdown pass from Charlie McKee with 3:37 to play to lead East Stroudsburg (9-2). McKee was 7 for 11 for 228 yards and three scores. Davis Black threw for 364 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions for Cal (Pa.) (7-3). D’Avay Johnson caught eight passes for 136 yards and Eric Willis had nine catches for 84 yards and a score.

Edinboro 36, Lock Haven 30 – Brian Trobel ran for 65 yards and four touchdowns and caught five passes for 52 yards and another score as Edinboro (2-8) won its season finale. ISaac Bernard was 22 for 30 for 194 yards and a touchdown. For Lock Haven (5-5), Kyle Zajack threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns, T-iar Young caught five balls for 101 yards and two scores and Chris Collier ran for 160 yards and a TD.

IUP 31, Bloomsburg 0 – Dayjure Stewart rushed for 186 yards and one touchdown as IUP (6-5) shut out Bloomsburg (3-8). Karst Hunter threw for 130 yards and two touchdowns for the Crimson Hawks. Drew Dinunzio-Biss recorded 10 tackles and a sack for IUP’s defense, which held Bloomsburg to 140 yards.

Shepherd 49, Mercyhurst 25 – Seth Morgan threw for 296 yards and four touchdowns as Shepherd defeated Mercyhurst. Jeremia Taylor caught seven passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns while Jordan Barnett rushed for 166 yards and a touchdown for Shepherd. Malakai Brown added 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Shepherd, which amassed 619 yards of offense. Adam Urena threw for 290 yards and two touchdowns – both to Braydon Black – for Mercyhurst, which put up 510 yards of offense. Black caught 11 passes for 181 yards.

Shippensburg 17, Gannon 10 – Mike Brewer scored the tying touchdown on a 59-yard interception return in the final minute of the second quarter and Josiah Leonard provided the winning margin on a 1-yard TD run in the final minute of the third quarter to lead Shippensburg (3-8). Cooper Mullins scored on a 33-yard fumble return and Donny Marcus had 65 rushing yards and seven catches for 83 receiving yards for Gannon (5-6).

Seton Hill 30, Millersville 10 – Jake Cruz threw for 110 yards and three touchdowns to Mark Bails Jr. as Seton Hill (6-5) beat Millersville (3-8) to close the season on a four-game winning streak. Bails Jr. caught four passes for 94 yards. Ben Weaver had three sacks and Josh Cohen had a forced fumble and returned a fumble 33 yards for a touchdown for the Griffins’ defense, which had seven sacks and forced four turnovers.

West Chester 34, Clarion 7 – Dayshawn Jacobs ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns to lead West Chester (6-5, 3-4) to the win against Clarion (2-9, 1-6). Izaiah McPherson intercepted three passes for West Chester, which picked off Clarion five times.

Division III

Carnegie Mellon 31, Case Western 21 – Tre Vasiliadis ran for 92 yards and a touchdown and Joey McGinnis IV added a pair of rushing touchdowns as Carnegie Mellon (9-1, 9-1 PAC) wrapped up its regular season with a win in the Academic Bowl. Ben Mills threw for 187 yards and a touchdown to Ethan Reifer. Alex Fromberg threw for 254 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions for Case Western (7-3, 7-3), which was held to 32 rushing yards.

Grove City 31, Thiel 0 – Ben Bladel had four sacks as Grove City (10-0, 10-0) held Thiel (3-7, 3-7) to only 56 yards in its PAC win. Nico Flati ran for 105 yards while Clayton Parrish added 75 yards and three touchdowns for Grove City, which had 379 yards of offense.

Saint Vincent 29, Bethany 21 – Gino Caesar ran for 111 yards and two-way player Max Pisula had two rushing touchdowns as Saint Vincent (3-7, 3-7) snapped a five-game losing streak with a PAC victory in its season finale. Austin Slye threw for 218 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a score. Charlie Mills ran for 74 yards and a touchdown for Bethany (0-10, 0-10).

Washington & Jefferson 33, Waynesburg 28 – Jacob Pugh threw for 355 yards and four touchdowns as Washington & Jefferson (8-2, 8-2) held off Waynesburg (2-8, 2-8) for the PAC win. John Peduzzi caught 10 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns for the Presidents, which led at halftime, 33-7. Zayne Cawley ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns for Waynesburg.

Westminster 35, Geneva 14 – Ty McGowan threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns to lead Westminster (6-4, 6-4) to the PAC win. Brutus Ogilvie tossed for 201 yards and a touchdown for Geneva (6-4, 4-6).
