District college football roundup: Led by dominant defense, Grove City knocks off No. 10 CMU

Grove City’s defense held No. 10 Carnegie Mellon to minus-9 yards rushing, intercepted two passes and scored on a fumble recovery in a 17-10 victory in PAC football Saturday.
Ryan Montgomery scored the defensive touchdown by recovering a fumble forced by Ben Bladel at the 3-yard line. Logan Pfeuffer threw for 146 yards and a touchdown and Nico Flati ran for 77 yards for Grove City (5-0, 5-0). Ben Mills went 29 for 46 for 282 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for CMU (5-1, 5-1).
Division II
Cal (Pa.) 28, Seton Hill 21 – Bobby Boyd Jr. scored on a 23-yard run with 14 seconds left to carry Cal (Pa.) to a PSAC win. Boyd ran for 72 yards and two touchdowns, David Black went 20 for 31 passing for 251 yards and Eric Willis caught eight passes for 134 yards and two TDs for Cal (5-1, 3-0). Ky’Ron Craggette ran for 84 yards and two touchdowns and had two catches for 59 yards for Seton Hill (2-4, 0-2).
Edinboro 27, IUP 23 – Evan Low caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Isaac Bernard with eight seconds left as Edinboro (2-4, 1-2) knocked off IUP (4-2, 1-2) in a PSAC game. Bo Swartz threw a touchdown pass and ran for two scores for Edinboro. JD Younger ran for 66 yards and two touchdowns and Karst Hunter threw for 209 yards with two interceptions for IUP.
Slippery Rock 35, Gannon 17 – Brayden Long threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns and scored on a 3-yard run to lead No. 6 Slippery Rock (6-0, 3-0) to the PSAC win over Gannon (1-5, 1-2). The Rock’s Kylon Wilson caught eight passes for 77 yards while Chris D’Or ran for 78 yards. Jayde Whitaker tossed for 164 yards and a touchdown for Gannon.
Division III
Case Western 49, Saint Vincent 0 – Alex Fromberg threw for 281 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another score as Case Western (4-1, 4-1) racked up 529 yards of offense in a PAC win. Noah Coyne caught six passes for 61 yards and two touchdowns and Andy Kavcic ran for 60 yards and a score. Saint Vincent (1-4, 1-4) was held to 97 yards of offense.
Thiel 21, Allegheny 7 – Daniel Rennie was 12 of 18 passing for 226 yards and three touchdowns to lead Thiel (1-4, 1-4) to a PAC win. Blake Joseph caught four passes for 118 yards and two scores, including a 95-yarder. Dominic Berarducci ran 21 times for 142 yards for Allegheny (1-5, 1-5).
Westminster 49, Bethany 7 – Ty McGowan went 10 for 15 passing for 190 yards and three touchdowns, including four passes for 105 yards and a score for Brite Cannon, as Westminster (4-1, 4-1) picked up a PAC win over Bethany (0-5, 0-5). Cannon and Brice Butler had punt return touchdowns for Westminster.
Washington & Jefferson 73, Geneva 21 – Jacob Pugh threw for 324 yards and six touchdowns as Washington & Jefferson (5-1, 5-1) amassed 565 yards of offense in its PAC win over Geneva (2-4, 2-4). John Peduzzi caught five passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns while fellow receiver Jacob Macosko added five receptions for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Ten different Presidents accounted for 216 rushing yards. Keaton Baker had Geneva’s only two completions in the game for 98 yards and a touchdown.
Division I FCS
Central Connecticut 38, Mercyhurst 20 – Elijah Howard ran for 169 yards and Jadon Turner rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown as Central Connecticut State (3-3, 2-0) defeated Mercuhurst (2-5, 0-2) in NEC play. Dan Toatley had two sacks and a forced fumble for Central Connecticut State, which forced four Mercyhurst turnovers. Adam Urena threw for 286 yards and a touchdown for the Lakers while teammate Cameron Barmore caught eight passes for 103 yards.
