Duquesne basketball schedule features 9 nationally televised games

Duquesne men’s basketball released its 2023-2024 schedule Wednesday, and it includes nine Atlantic 10 games on national television over three networks.

The Dukes open A-10 play Jan. 3 at UMass before playing at Loyola Chicago on CBS Sports Network on Jan. 6. Four of the next five games will be at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, including Dayton at home and on ESPN on Jan. 12. Duquesne will appear on ESPN on Feb. 23 in a game at Fordham. USA Network will telecast the Saint Joseph’s game in Philadelphia on Jan. 20 and the Fordham game Jan. 27 at home.

Duquesne will be back on USA Network on Feb. 3 to play Rhode Island. The Dukes play at St. Bonaventure on ESPN on Feb. 10 and Saint Joseph’s at home on Feb. 17 on USA Network. The final regular-season televised contest will be March 2 at George Mason on USA Network.

Duquesne will take a break from A 10 play on Jan. 31 to play a nonconferene game against Chicago State at the Cooper Fieldhouse. Chicago State is on the schedule for the first time since a 104-64 Dukes victory at the Civic Arena on Feb. 15, 1973.

In addition, the Dukes will play a nonconference game against College of Charleston on Nov. 10 as part of the 10th annual Veterans Classic in Annapolis, Md. Eight of the remaining 12 nonconference games will be at home, including the opener Nov. 6 against Cleveland State.

Duquesne plays Stony Brook on Nov. 13 and Rider on Nov. 17 as part of the Cornhusker Challenge at home. In between those games, Duquesne will play Princeton at Cooper Fieldhouse on Nov. 15.

The Dukes will travel to Lincoln, Neb., for another Cornhusker Challenge game Nov. 22 against Nebraska. The Cornhuskers will be the Dukes’ only opponent from a power conference. The game also will be Duquesne’s first against a Big Ten team since a 73-67 loss to Penn State at PPG Paints Arena on Dec. 19, 2018.

Coach Keith Dambrot will bring his Dukes to Saint Vincent Saint Mary High School in Akron on Dec. 18 to play Bradley. Dambrot is a former Saint Vincent St. Mary coach. Five days later, the Dukes will be in Las Vegas on Dec. 23 to play Santa Clara at Orleans Arena.

Then, on Dec. 3o, Dambrot will welcome Cleary University to the Cooper Fieldhouse. Beginning its first season at the NAIA level, Cleary is coached by Carl Thomas, who spent six seasons on Dambrot’s staff at Duquesne.

Overall, seven Duquesne opponents won 20 or more games and seven finished first or second in their conference.
