The Duquesne men’s basketball team will embark on a lengthy road trip next December as part of the inaugural Mountain West-Atlantic 10 Challenge Series.
The Dukes will play at Wyoming on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020.
Perhaps surprisingly, it won’t be the first meeting between the schools. They’ve met four times before.
Duquesne leads the series, 3-1, winning twice at home in 1942 and once in the National Campus Tournament in Peoria, Ill., in 1961. Wyoming won in the Quaker City Tournament in Philadelphia in 1951.
The unusual geography of the challenge series is part of its appeal, A-10 commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade said in a statement.
“Intentionally stretching our scheduling footprint into four time zones is great for television exposure and brand expansion,” McGlade said. “Non-conference games are important and these matchups will be highly competitive, exciting and fun for our fan base.”
Duquesne is 9-5 all-time against schools that currently play in the Mountain West. They’ve gone on the road to face Mountain West opponents twice, playing against New Mexico in Albuquerque in tournaments in 1991 and 2004.
