Former Pitt standout guard Curtis Aiken has been appointed by Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro to the Board of Trustees of the University of Pittsburgh of the Commonwealth System of Higher Education. He is set to serve a four-year term ending Oct. 5, 2027.
Aiken, who is a radio analyst for the Pitt basetball team, played at Pitt from 1983-1987, finishing with 1,200 points.
“I am deeply honored to be appointed by Governor Shapiro to the Board of Trustees for our University,” Aiken said in a statement. “My journey to this tremendous milestone is a testament to dedication, hard work and hundreds of thoughtful supporters who prodded and prayed for me from student-athlete to this pinnacle.
“I hope my life story will inspire and motivate others to search always for excellence. I will seek to be a vessel for input from students, faculty, administrators and the community to continue to make our beloved institution better.
“Most important, I want to express my tremendous gratitude to Governor Shapiro for his faith in me to represent him and the Commonwealth during these challenging times.”
Aiken was officially sworn in Jan. 10 at the Croghan-Schenley Room in the Cathedral of Learning.
