Steelers quarterback Landry Jones directs his teammates against the Patriots in the third quarter Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016 at Heinz Field.

In “First Call” Wednesday, you’ll never figure out where Landry Jones signed. There’s still hope for “Shady” in Buffalo. Making sense of a busy night in the NHL’s Eastern Conference.

This should be good

Guess where Landry Jones is going.

I mean, it’s not the Raiders, right?

Well, of course, it’s the Raiders. If Oakland can put Vontaze Burfict in the same locker room with Antonio Brown, why can’t they put Jones in Silver and Black as well?

The former Steelers backup quarterback kicked around with the Jaguars last year after he was released from Pittsburgh.

Now, he’ll be throwing passes to Brown again. And you may remember how that went when Jones was thrust into duty against the Cardinals a few years ago. Brown was yapping at Jones to throw him the ball nonstop on the sideline the whole day.

And the Steelers won!

I’ll say this, though, it was Jones who threw the ball one day at training camp when Brown may have made the best catch I ever saw him make.

Ah, the good ol’ days.

Hype or real

There’s a lot of debate over whether or not the hype surrounding the Cleveland Browns is real or if it’s … you know … hype.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh says Cleveland is the most talented team in the AFC North.

I agree with Harbaugh there. The Browns have the pieces in place to be better than any other team in the division. Now it’s a matter of making them fit.

Well, that and the small matter of putting a solid offensive line together for 16 games.

Also, quarterback Baker Mayfield better avoid a sophomore slump. And “sophomore slump” is code for saying, “the other NFL teams figuring you out with a year’s worth of tape to study.”

Good find

Believe it or not, there was a time when the Pitt Panthers found themselves playing in the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

Here was a good find on Twitter, and Pitt’s coach, Jeff Capel, gave his thumbs up when he stumbled on it, too.

That’s video from Pitt’s Sweet 16 win over Xavier in 2009. Pitt hasn’t been to the second weekend since then.

That next game in Boston didn’t end so well, though, did it?

No, there won’t be as many fond remembrances over that one.

Speaking of Pitt

It doesn’t sound like the Bills are ready to give up on former Panthers running back LeSean McCoy.

Check out this exchange with Sean McDermott, via Sal Capaccio of WGR radio.

McCoy played in 14 games last season. He totaled 514 rushing yards, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry. Those were career lows. He also had just 238 yards receiving, a low since his 12-game season of 2015.

Huge night in the East

While the Penguins were off, a ton of action took place in the Eastern Conference Tuesday.

The Capitals beat the Hurricanes, 4-1. Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets shutout the Islanders, 4-0. And Montreal smoked the Panthers, 6-1.

So, as of Wednesday morning, Washington has 98 points to lead the Metropolitan Division. The Penguins and Islanders are still tied at 95 points for second in the division. The Hurricanes lead the wild-card chase with 91 points, and the Canadiens hold the other slot with 90.

The Blue Jackets are two points off the pace with 88.
