First Call: Steelers 1 of 3 teams in mix for WR Mike Williams; Terry Bradshaw thinks Steelers should stick with Justin Fields
The Pittsburgh Steelers could be finally closing in on wide receiver help. A Steelers legend is weighing in on the quarterback debate. West Virginia is in the spotlight for local college football fans.
And the Robert Morris hockey team has to be pleased with its first outing of the year.
All that in Friday’s “First Call.”
Terry’s take
Steelers Hall Of Fame quarterback turned Fox analyst Terry Bradshaw told TMZ.com that he thinks Justin Fields should remain the starting QB.
“I’m gonna stay with Fields,” Bradshaw said. “I think he’s played really good. He’s such a great athlete. He can throw. I think he just fits the team he has right now.”
Fields blamed himself for the switch Wednesday, saying that he felt he didn’t play well enough to keep the job. Bradshaw disagrees.
“He’s played well enough to keep the job, in my opinion,” he said. “I’d hang my hat with the young guy.”
This week the Steelers are honoring the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl IX winning team. Bradshaw was the quarterback that year. It was the first of his four Super Bowl rings.
This year’s group will be wearing throwback jerseys in honor of that team when they host the New York Jets on Sunday night.
Will they get Williams?
The Steelers are one of at least three teams in the running for New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams. That’s according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.
She says that the Los Angeles Chargers and New Orleans Saints are also in the mix.

The Steelers wanted to meet with Willaims when he was a free agent this past spring, but he signed with the Jets instead.
Williams spent the first seven years of his career with the Chargers, posting 4,951 yards and 31 touchdowns. He has been limited to just 10 catches for 145 yards this season and is expected to be pushed further down the depth chart, given New York’s acquisition of Davante Adams this week.
The Saints need a wideout after losing Rashid Shaheed to knee surgery.

Third-ranked Penn State is idle. The Nittany Lions are at Wisconsin next week.
So all eyes locally will be on the Mountaineers of West Virginia (3-3). They are coming off a 28-16 loss to Iowa State. Now WVU has to welcome No. 17 Kansas State (5-1). The Wildcats are 2½ point favorites.
Via BetRivers, Kansas State has failed to cover the spread in each of its past seven October games as a road favorite.
In NEC play, Robert Morris (3-3) hosts Long Island University (1-6) at noon. RMU is coming off a 23-0 shutout of Delaware State for homecoming last weekend.
Duquesne is idle. They take a four game win streak to Stonehill next week.
