Fishing report: Crappie biting at Shenango Reservoir

• Anglers are finding plenty of panfish at Shenango Reservoir, with live bait such as crickets or worms providing a solid option as far as bait is concerned. Crappie are also biting for fishermen who are casting out into the deeper areas of the reservoir.

• The Kinzua Reservoir is harboring walleye, with anglers having the most luck in Sugar Bay. Nightcrawlers appear to be working well as bait.

• In Warren County, the Allegheny River is offering up smallmouth bass to fishermen who are using soft plastic lures and spinners. The hot spots for the bass are in and around Betts Park.

• Bessemer Lake is shaping up to be a productive area for largemouth bass fishing. Anglers are doing well using live bait such as minnows or worms, and assorted soft plastics. A handful of trout catches were reported within the last week as well.

• The walleye bite is strong at Lake Erie, with anglers finding the fish in 30 feet or deeper of water. Stick baits are working well for the walleye. Visitors to Lake Erie are catching yellow perch occasionally, but the catches are coming with less regularity.

• Lake Wilhelm is rounding into a solid spot for bluegill and crappie fishing. The bluegill are populating the bay areas and biting at worms. Fishermen have reported a couple of bass and perch catches at the lake, too.

• Fishermen at Pymatuning Reservoir are having success trolling for walleye. The action is heating up at night with the walleye, with anglers using crawler harnesses as a setup. Catfish, muskie and crappie are being caught as well.

• Twins Lake is still offering up a good deal of trout to anglers fishing its waters. Pastebaits are a go-to for the trout.

• While Fourmile Run isn’t hitting with trout as well as it was a few weeks ago, there are catches still being reported as recently as this week.

• Anglers fishing High Point Lake are reeling in largemouth bass and bluegill, with the catch rate increasing for both types of fish in recent weeks.

• The Youghiogheny River Lake is yielding largemouth bass of late, with walleye becoming less of a popular catch.
