Fishing report: Walleye, catfish, trout biting in Youghiogheny

• The Youghiogheny River is yielding catches of walleye, channel catfish, smallmouth bass and trout to fishermen that are trolling its waters in the past few days. The bulk of the smallmouth bass and trout are being caught closer to Ohiopyle, and the walleye and catfish are toward the Layton end.

• The Allegheny River in Venango County is offering up plenty of smallmouth bass and a few walleye as well. The number of walleye catches appears to have peaked a week or two ago, but there seems to still be a solid population of bass. Anglers are using jigs and spinners for the bass.

• Justus Lake still has a number of bass, smallmouth and largemouth, swimming its waters. One strategy for success appears to be using large creek baits.

• The musky are biting at Tionesta Outflow, with fishermen using live bait and artificial lures to success.

• In Forest County, the Allegheny River is shaping up to be a good spot to visit for anglers looking to catch northern pike. More than a few catches have been reported in the vicinity of the sand and gravel launch. Live bait is the way to go.

• Anglers fishing Upper Clarion River are reporting a variety of catches, including walleye, crappie, perch and some smallmouth bass. The perch and crappie appear to be the predominant catches of late.

• Lower Clarion River still has a few walleye and some smallmouth bass swimming its waters, specifically where the river meets the Allegheny River.

• The portion of the Allegheny River that runs through Clarion County is hosting walleye and smallmouth bass, too. Anglers have been doing particularly well with the fish via boat.

• Bluegills are biting for anglers fishing at High Point Lake. Fishermen are reporting more frequent catches at the lake in recent days.

• The fishing at Quemahoning Reservoir is picking up, as anglers are spotting smallmouth bass, northern pike and even a few larger brown trout in the last week or so.

• In Greene County, the Monongahela River is harboring some monster catfish, with reports rolling in of catfish catches that are weighing more than 25 pounds.

• At Lake Erie, fishermen are catching walleye in droves. Primarily, reports indicate the walleye are swimming in a depth of about 25 to 35 feet of water. A few yellow perch catches are being reported by anglers as well, although they are few and far between.

• Lake Arthur remains a productive spot for anglers who are on the search for walleye and even hybrid striped bass.
