Fishing report: Walleye, crappie biting at Pymatuning Reservoir

• Pymatuning Reservoir is offering up a variety of fish to anglers casting into its waters, including walleye, crappie and yellow perch. The crappie and the yellow perch are swimming in the vicinity of shallow structures in the reservoir. Fishermen are catching both fish using jigs tipped with minnows. Meanwhile, the walleye are biting at stickbaits and jigs. Primetime for catching walleye appears to be dusk.

• Shenango Reservoir is looking like a productive place for anglers, with northern pike and panfish biting at a consistent rate. The crappie are not as prevalent as they have moved toward the deeper pockets of water in the reservoir. Anglers are reporting an increasing rate of white bass catches, however, with crankbaits appearing to be the go-to bait.

• Anglers fishing by boat at Presque Isle Bay are scooping up the occasional yellow perch and crappie catches using minnows as bait.

• The bluegill bite at Lake Wilhelm has slowed but catches are still being reported intermittently.

• Anglers are piling up catches at Kahle Lake, reeling in largemouth bass, yellow perch, bluegill and crappie. Minnows appear to produce solid results as bait.

• In Venango County, the Allegheny River is yielding smallmouth bass and walleye to fishermen. For the most part, the smallmouth bass are being spotted in the deeper sections of the river. Though, a small number of the bass are being caught in water around 4 or 5 feet deep. Anglers are also reporting a handful of northern pike catches around the mouth of the Clarion River.

• Neshannock Creek has received a fresh stocking of trout and should be primed for some action.

• At Tionesta Lake, anglers are still doing well with yellow perch, bluegill and crappie when casting out from Nebraska Bridge.

• Fishermen are catching some larger sized trout in Dutch Fork, specifically in the Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only section of the lake.

• The Allegheny River in Allegheny County is teeming with carp and catfish. Anglers are also picking up smallmouth bass more often as the season progresses. Chicken livers and minnows are the way to go for bait.

• North Park Lake is a spot to check out for anglers who are looking to pick up rainbow trout.

• The bite at Pine Creek has not been steady, but there are reports of trout catches here and there. The rain may provoke the trout to be a little more active. One solid bait for the trout has been mop flies, according to reports.
