Former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Simon Despres has signed with the Glasgow Clan, a team based in Scotland that competes in the United Kingdom’s Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL).

That team announced the transaction via a release Tuesday.

A first-round pick (No. 30 overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft, Despres spent parts of four seasons with the Penguins in the 2010s. Appearing in 144 games for the Penguins, Despres had 33 points (five goals, 28 assists) while averaging 15:54 of ice time.

Despres also spent time with the Anaheim Ducks before playing for a series of teams in Europe beginning in 2017.

A native of Quebec, the 32-year-old Despres spent the 2023-24 season with the Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL. Appearing in 44 games, he scored 12 points (two goals, 10 assists).
