Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Greg McKegg has signed with the Shanghai Dragons of Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League.

That team announced the transaction via a release on Monday.

While the team is billed as being from China’s largest city, it currently operates out of St. Petersburg, Russia, a designated “sister city.” The Dragons are expected to formally move to Shanghai in the future.

A native of St. Thomas, Ontario, the 33-year-old McKegg spent part of one season with the Penguins. In 2017-18, McKegg appeared in 26 games for the Penguins and posted four points (two goals, two assists) while averaging 9:41 of ice time.

In addition to the Penguins, McKegg has played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers and Boston Bruins.

An unspecified injury sidelined McKegg for all of the 2024-25 season after he signed with BK Mladá Boleslav of the Extraliga ledního hokeje (Extraliga Ice Hockey) in Czechia in September of 2024.

Before turning professional in 2012, McKegg skated at the junior level for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League for parts of four seasons, including two as captain.
