Knoch graduate Jordan Geist placed 14th in the men’s shot put Friday at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Competing in the second flight, the rising junior at the University of Arizona unleashed a top toss of 19.78 meters (64 feet, 10¾ inches). He did not record a distance on his other two attempts.

The top eight after the first round advanced to the finals.

NCAA champion Adrian Piperi, a rising junior at the University of Texas, finished 13th (19.93/64-5¾).

Ryan Crouser, who won the gold medal in the shot at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, captured the national title with a leading distance of 22.62 (74-2½).

Geist returns to competition Aug. 7 at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
