Carlow will have baseball for the first time, with a side of Rice.

The university announced it has hired James Rice to lead the program.

It will be the first head-coaching job for the Greensburg Central Catholic graduate, who brings five years of coaching experience to the Celtics.

Rice, who played college baseball at Mt. Aloysius and won an AMCC championship and went to NCAA regionals in 2022, was an assistant at Wilmington (Ohio) for the past two years.

Before that, he coached in the Old North State League in North Carolina.

Rice also will be a facilities manager and work with intramurals.

“Being able to start something that has never been done here before is thrilling and will open new opportunities for so many people,” Rice said in a news release. “Carlow is filled with great people that care about overall success of students and creating an environment where student-athletes can thrive on and off the field. I look forward to being a part of the culture at Carlow and getting this baseball program started.”
