John Mesing, John Mazza selected to Tri-State PGA Hall of Fame

John Mesing and John Mazza were elected to the 2019 Tri-State PGA Hall of Fame.
The duo will be inducted at the annual fall meeting Oct. 28.
Mesing, nicknamed Max, was a PGA life member who died in 2018. His connection with the sport started at age 7 when he was a ball retriever at Scally’s Golf Center.
He began his professional career in 1971 after serving in the Navy. In 1984, Mesing purchased a run-down golf course on the banks of the Beaver River and named it Fox Run. He later purchased Stonecrest Golf Course in 1999.
Mazza began his journey at age 8 with his father’s encouragement. He started competing at age 10 in Blackhawk Golf Course’s weekly junior golf program.
Mazza qualified for the United States Amateur Championship in 1973 and again in 1977. He earned his PGA Tour card in 1979 and qualified for two U.S. Open Championships, two PGA Championships, a U.S. Senior Open Championship and a Senior PGA Championship.
Mazza had a strong Tri-State record, winning the Tri-State Player of the Year Award six times and winning the Pennsylvania Open Championship in 2006.
