Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is active and is expected to start Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.

Herbert entered the game questionable to play because of a high ankle sprain. Herbert worked out on the field about two hours before the game.

The Chargers have all three quarterbacks active for the 1 p.m. game. Herbert’s backups are Easton Stick and Taylor Heinicke.

The Steelers will be without quarterback Russell Wilson for a third game in a row as he recovers from a calf injury. Justin Fields will make his third consecutive start to open the season and will face a Chargers defense that has allowed the fewest points through two weeks.

Wilson is inactive but will dress as the emergency third quarterback.

Rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson’s debut with the Steelers will have to wait another week. Despite practicing fully the past two days after being sidelined since early in training camp with an ankle injury, Roman Wilson is inactive for the third week in a row. The Steelers will dress four wide receivers.

Also inactive for the Steelers are cornerback Darius Rush, safety Terrell Edmunds, guard Isaac Seumalo and tight end MyCole Pruitt. A day earlier, the Steelers placed rookie tackle Troy Fautanu on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Active for the first time this season is defensive lineman Dean Lowry, who signed a two-year contract with the Steelers in free agency. Tight end Rodney Williams also is active.

On Saturday, the Steelers elevated offensive lineman John Leglue and cornerback James Pierre from the practice squad.

The Steelers and Chargers each enter the game with 2-0 records.

The Chargers’ inactives are wide receiver Joshua Palmer, linebacker Junior Colson, cornerback Tarheeb Still, running back Kimani Vidal, offensive lineman Jordan McFadden and defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe.
