SEATTLE — Kenny Pickett’s recovery from ankle surgery wasn’t quick enough for him to get a helmet Sunday.
Coach Mike Tomlin declared Pickett inactive for the Steelers’ game against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.
Pickett was questionable following the final practice of the week Friday. By ruling Pickett out of the game, he won’t even serve as the emergency No. 3 quarterback.
Pickett will be out for the fourth consecutive game.
Mitch Trubisky will back up Mason Rudolph for the second week in a row. Rudolph got the start again after leading the Steelers to a 34-11 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals last Saturday that kept their playoff hopes alive.
Also inactive for the Steelers are safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick and Trenton Thompson, cornerback Darius Rush, inside linebacker Elandon Roberts, defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal and tackle Dylan Cook. With Leal being inactive, Isaiahh Loudermilk is in uniform to provide depth on the defensive line.
Roberts will miss the game with a groin injury. In his absence, the Steelers will have Mykal Walker, Myles Jack, Blake Martinez and Mark Robinson available at inside linebacker. Jack was elevated from the practice squad Saturday as was safety Eric Rowe.
Rowe and Patrick Peterson are expected to start at safety.
The Steelers and Seahawks each enter the game with 8-7 records.
Inactive for the Seahawks are running back Kenny McIntoch; cornerback Kelvin Joseph; linebacker Jordyn Brooks; tackles Curtis McClendon, Jason Peters and Raiqwon O’Neal; and defensive end Mario Edwards Jr.
