Four years after leading Latrobe to its first WPIAL and PIAA baseball championships, Zach Kokoska took the first step toward a professional career Monday when he was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 10th round of the MLB draft.

The 290th overall pick, Kokoska was second-team all-Big 12 and was part of the all-tournament team for the conference this past season for Kansas State. Kokoska led the Wildcats in batting average (.363), on-base percentage (.445) and slugging percentage (.675). He had 15 home runs, 19 doubles and 46 RBIs for Kansas State, ranking third in the Big 12 in homers, second in doubles, second in slugging percentage and fifth in on-base percentage.

Also a two-time academic all-Big 12 performer, Kokoska began his college career at Virginia Tech in 2018. He was the Pennsylvania high school player of the year in 2017, as named both by Gatorade and USA Today, when he hit .532 with five home runs, seven triples and 32 RBIs as a senior.

According to his Kansas State bio, Kokoska set Latrobe program career records for average, on-base percentage, triples, home runs, RBIs, total bases and hits.

Kokoska, 22, was the sixth WPIAL player selected in this draft, the first from Westmoreland County.
