The Pittsburgh Pirates took a gamble by placing a half-dozen players on waivers last week and lost two more Monday to waiver claims.
The Oakland A’s claimed outfielder Miguel Andujar and the Atlanta Braves claimed left-handed reliever Angel Perdomo.
Andujar, 28, batted .250/.300/.476 with seven doubles, four home runs and 18 RBIs in 30 games with the Pirates. He spent most of the season at Triple-A Indianapolis, where he was named team MVP.
Perdomo, 29, was 3-2 with a 3.72 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 29 innings over 30 appearances, averaging 13.7 strikeouts per nine innings for the Pirates last season.
The Pirates have now lost five players to waivers. Infielders Vinny Capra (Milwaukee Brewers) and Tucupita Marcano (San Diego Padres) and first baseman Alfonso Rivas (Cleveland Guardians) were claimed Thursday.
They also traded right-handed reliever Cody Bolton to the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations.
Righty reliever Yerry De Los Santos cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis.
The Pirates also reinstated right-handed pitcher JT Brubaker and shortstop Oneil Cruz from the 60-day injured list. Brubaker missed the 2022 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April. Cruz played in nine games before fracturing his left ankle.
