Minor league report: Penguins, Joel Blomqvist shut out Bruins

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 27 saves for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 1-0 shutout of the Providence Bruins at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I., on Saturday.

It was the first shutout of the season for Blomqvist who remained perfect with a 2-0-0 mark.

Forward Rutger McGroarty scored the lone goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (13-4-1-0).

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the rival Hershey Bears on Wednesday, 7 p.m.


A goal and an assist by forward Tanner Andrew led the Wheeling Nailers to a 3-1 win against the Reading Royals at Santander Arena in Reading.

Forward Cole Tymkin recorded two assists for Wheeling (11-3-0-0), while forwards Connor Lockhart and Jack Works each contributed a goal.

Goaltender Jake Smith made 36 saves on 37 shots as he remained undefeated on the season at 5-0-0.

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Indy Fuel on Wednesday, 7:10 p.m.
