Minor league report: Penguins open preseason with shootout win

Forward Gabe Klassen scored the lone goal in a shootout and gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 2-1 win against the Hershey Bears in their opening game of the preseason at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Penguins goaltender Maxim Pavelenko made 17 saves on 18 shots in regulation and overtime then stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout.

Defenseman Logan Pietila scored the lone regulation goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Highlights:

The Penguins’ second and final game of the preseason is a road contest against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Saturday, 7:05 p.m.
