Big Ben, JuJu… Kermit and Miss Piggy? All of them will be part of “Monday Night Football.”
The Muppets will be part of Monday’s ESPN broadcast of the game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy will take part in the opening of the broadcast of the 8:15 p.m. kickoff, serving as a broadcast team from a booth, according to a release from ESPN, with Fozzie Bear acting as a sideline reporter.
Created by Jim Henson in 1955, the Muppets have been part of the Walt Disney corporate umbrella since 2004. ESPN is also owned by Disney.
Monday’s game is the final one scheduled in the NFL before Christmas, although there is a game scheduled for Christmas Day. During the final pre-Christmas “MNF” each of the past two seasons, ESPN has deployed a holiday theme: “Scrooge” in 2018 and “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” last year.
