No. 1 Pitt women's volleyball recovers from season's 1st set loss, defeats Boston College
Pitt’s No. 1 women’s volleyball team lost its first set of the season after a program-record 36 consecutive victories, but in the end, it didn’t matter.
Pitt (13-0, 3-0 ACC) defeated Boston College (7-8, 0-3), 23-25, 25-7, 25-9, 25-20, on Friday night in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Olivia Babcock set an all-time Pitt single-match ace record with 12, part of the first triple-double of her career that included 14 kills and 10 digs. Babcock is the first Pitt player with a triple-double since Rachel Fairbanks recorded 28 assists, 13 digs and 10 kills against BYU in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
Fairbanks contributed to Friday’s victory with her third double-double of the season (37 assists and 10 digs). Torrey Stafford added 14 kills on a .321 hitting percentage, the 11th match in which she has hit .300.
Dalia Virlan recorded a personal-high six kills in her first career start.
Up next for Pitt will be a match at Syracuse at 11 a.m. Sunday before returning home to meet SMU on Wednesday at Fitzgerald Field House.
