Pitt men’s basketball coach Jeff Capel bolstered his backcourt Thursday after signing one of the top high school players in Michigan.

Point guard Macari Moore, a Mr. Basketball finalist this past season, will join the Panthers for the 2025-26 season.

“Macari is a tenacious competitor who showed winning traits throughout his high school and AAU career,” Capel said in a statement. “He plays with an attacking style on both ends of the floor and has built a strong reputation around his work ethic. He is at his best as a downhill driver getting in the lane to make plays for himself or teammates and has also shown the ability knock down shots from the perimeter.

“He will fit in well with the backcourt we are building at Pitt, and we are excited to see how he continues to develop in our program.”

Moore (6-foot-3) was a first-team all-state selection after he averaged 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.5 steals for Huron High School, which finished 22-5 overall. He shot nearly 65% from the field, including 47% from 3-point range.

Moore, who scored more than 1,5000 career points and set the school’s career scoring record, also was the Ann Arbor Player of the Year as a junior.

The No. 2-ranked senior player from Michigan, he originally committed to Iowa State last November and decommitted in March. He chose the Panthers over offers from Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Louisville, Toledo and Western Michigan.

He will be among eight newcomers on the Panthers roster, including four players signed in the transfer portal — Barry Dunning, Jr. (South Alabama), Nojus Indrusaitis (Iowa State), Dishon Jackson (Iowa State) and Damarco Minor (Oregon State).

The 2025 high school recruiting class includes Omari Witherspoon (St. John’s College), Henry Lau (Sydney Boys High/Sydney Kings) and Kieran Mullen (St. Thomas More).
