Nolan Boehm is making his mark this spring for the Chatham baseball team.

The Gateway graduate was third for the Cougars in hitting at .308 (20 for 65) through 20 games.

He recorded two doubles, two triples, 12 runs batted in and 11 runs scored through a doubleheader split with Saint Vincent on April 5 which put Chatham at 12-14 overall and 4-6 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play.

In Game 2 against the Bearcats, a 5-4 loss, Boehm went 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI.

His best game of the season came against Wentworth (Mass.) on March 7. He was 4 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored as Chatham won 13-8 in Auburndale, Fla. He both opened and closed the scoring for the Cougars with run-scoring singles.

Sarah Corrie

Gateway alum Sarah Corrie, a Slippery Rock graduate student, led a trio of Rock throwers to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference automatic qualifying marks with a fifth-place finish and season-best shot put toss of 13.12 meters (43.04 feet) at the SRU Dave Labor Invitational on April 5.

Corrie was a part of one of the biggest meets in the region as the Dave Labor Invite attracted more than 1,200 athletes from 37 different colleges.

The two-time NCAA Championship qualifier, four-time PSAC champion and five-time United States Track and Field Coaches Association All-Region honoree seeks one more trip to nationals in her final collegiate season.

She threw a collegiate outdoor career-best 14.76 as part of a second-place finish at last year’s Ashland Alumni Open. She went on to claim the PSAC shot put title with a top attempt of 14.73.

Morgan Holmes

The PSAC recently bestowed all-conference first team honors on Gateway graduate Morgan Holmes in recognition of her contributions to Bloomsburg swimming’s conference-winning 200-yard freestyle relay.

She also helped the relay foursome place 18th in a time of 1:33.73 at the NCAA Division II championships March 15 in Indianapolis, Ind.

The quartet punched its ticket to nationals by winning the PSAC championship in York in late February with a school-record time of 1:33.21, then the 15th best time in NCAA Division II.

Holmes also received third-team honors from the PSAC after her third-place finish in the 100 free (51.22) at the conference championships.

Robert Johnson

Gateway grad Robert Johnson is one of the leading scorers this spring for the La Roche College men’s lacrosse team.

The Redhawks sophomore attacker scored 10 goals on 57 shots, good for second on the team, and added an assist through his team’s first nine games (0-9).

Three of those goals came with the man advantage.

He also was second on the team in ground balls with 41 while recording five caused turnovers.

Johnson tallied a hat trick against Hiram on March 18 and led the team with 13 ground balls at Alfred State on April 5.

Emma Kennedy

The starting catcher for the Slippery Rock softball team, Gateway grad Emma Kennedy collected a season-best three hits in four at-bats in a 10-1, five-inning victory over Clarion on March 28.

She drove in three runs and scored twice in the first game of the PSAC doubleheader.

The home run was her first of the season.

The 3-for-4 effort capped a streak where she batted .500 (10 for 20) with six RBIs and six runs scored.

Kennedy started 17 of her team’s first 24 games and batted .311 (19 of 61) with six multi-hit games, three doubles, eight RBIs and seven runs scored.

Deanna Gratton

A starting infielder for the Washington & Jefferson softball team, Gateway product Deanna Gratton batted .304 (17 of 56) through 21 games, all starts.

She collected 12 RBIs, scored nine runs and also drew 11 walks for the Presidents (10-11 overall, 5-5 PAC).

Gratton owned five multi-hit games with two coming in back-to-back efforts against Grove City on March 27 and Franciscan two days later.

W&J dropped the second game of a doubleheader to the Wolverines, 12-10, despite Gratton going 3 for 4 with two runs batted in and a run scored. The three hits were her season best for a single game.

She collected two hits in three at-bats and scored a run in a 6-5 loss to a Franciscan.

Nate Demchak

Westminster sophomore Nate Demchak, a member of the Titans baseball team, has not played so far this spring as he continues his recovery from shoulder surgery last August.

The Gateway graduate, in a small sample size of eight games with two starts last spring, batted .308 (4 of 13) with a pair of doubles, a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored.

The outfielder collected his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot, in his third game with the Titans, a 7-3 setback to Oberlin (Ohio).

Taili Thompson

Gateway grad Taili Thompson has made eight appearances on the mound in his freshman season with the Division I North Carolina A&T baseball team.

He owns a 4.67 earned-run average in 17 1/3 innings of work with 13 strikeouts to his credit.

Thompson collected three strikeouts while surrendering three hits and no walks over a season-best four innings against Stony Brook on April 5.
